In loving memory of Sarah Beckstrom
Honoring a West Virginia National Guard soldier and beloved daughter of Webster Springs
With profound sadness, we announce the death of West Virginia National Guard member Sarah Beckstrom, age 20, of Webster Springs, who succumbed to her wounds following the targeted ambush attack in Washington, D.C., on November 26, 2025. Identified as the second victim, Sarah underwent emergency surgery at MedStar Washington Hospital Center but did not survive her injuries. Her passing leaves her family, friends, fellow soldiers, and community in deep grief.
Sarah embodied honor, duty, and quiet courage. At just 20, she chose a path of service—standing watch so others could live in safety. Her commitment to protecting her community and country reflects a spirit of generosity and resilience that inspired those around her. As U.S. officials noted, “They were in D.C. to keep D.C. safe.” Sarah lived that purpose with integrity and heart. Hailing from rural Webster County, approximately 150 miles east of Charleston, Sarah carried the warmth and strength of her hometown into every mission. She was a devoted daughter and trusted friend—steady, kind, and deeply loyal. Her laughter, encouragement, and presence will be remembered in the stories shared and the lives she lifted.
We extend our deepest condolences to Sarah’s family, friends, and fellow Guard members. May you find comfort in cherished memories, strength in one another, and peace in knowing that Sarah’s service and sacrifice will not be forgotten. In this painful time, we honor the fullness of her life—not only the circumstances of her death, but the love, integrity, and service that defined her.
Rest in peace, Sarah Beckstrom. Your life was a blessing, your service a gift, and your memory eternal. May angels guard your rest, and may your family be sustained by the gratitude of a nation and the embrace of a community that will carry your legacy forward.
