With the deepest sadness, the family of Senator Faith Winter confirms her death following a tragic multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 25 south of Denver. Faith, 45, was a devoted mother, a loving partner, and a tremendous leader whose life was defined by empathy, service, and unwavering dedication to her community.
A Broomfield Democrat, Faith was entering her 12th and final year as a state lawmaker due to term limits. She served as chair of the Senate Transportation and Energy Committee, where she became a fierce advocate for transit, environmental protection, and policies that uplifted families and hardworking Coloradans. Her colleagues remember her as a skilled policymaker who combined toughness with compassion, always striving to see the best in people. Faith’s personal life reflected the same warmth she brought to public service. She was the proud mother of a son and daughter and was engaged to marry former state Rep. Matt Gray. Known for her approachable nature, she often brought her dog, Queso, to the Capitol and encouraged her daughter’s Girl Scout cookie sales outside the chambers. She was quick to offer a hug to anyone having a difficult day, embodying the empathy she led with in all aspects of her life.
Her death has left Colorado shaken. Senate leaders described her as a colleague whose presence brought invaluable perspective and warmth, while Governor Jared Polis called her a “fierce advocate” whose work made Colorado a better state.
